Getting Your House in Order

I cannot believe that this is the final issue for 2019.
In retrospect, the year has flown by, yet at the same time there were definitely long days and weeks. I am sure we can all relate to that in some way. Usually for me, things seem to move in slow motion when there is a challenge I am working to solve to keep my practice running smoothly, and then time flies when things go smoothly until all of a sudden I am back at a challenge again! I keep reminding myself that the challenges are growth opportunities and as they get farther away in the rear view mirror, those lessons become clear.
This year has definitely been about growth opportunities for myself and my practice. As I type this, I am preparing to go out on my first maternity leave, which has forced me to work on really solidifying the systems we have in place as a practice. I have also defined roles more clearly and provided my staff the opportunity to step up to see how they handle more responsibility. While it is hard to prepare to step away for a bit, I know that this is a great opportunity for my staff and the practice as a whole. I’m excited to see the ideas and innovations they come up with when their knee jerk response isn’t to ask me.
This issue is about compliance, not always the most fun topic, but it’s all about having your house in order, which is what I’ve been concentrating on the last several months. I have found that getting the systems in place has helped to ensure there is less confusion and things run more smoothly. It has also helped us to be even more diligent with maintaining compliance and having better checks and balances because it isn’t all sitting in my head; it’s a process and a system and other people have responsibilities.
I am excited for all of the opportunities that 2020 is going to bring to our profession and each of us as individuals. I am also looking forward to the Editorial Board continuing to grow and enhance the content we are bringing to you. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with topics that you would like to see more information on; we welcome feedback and ideas. In addition, if you go to this month’s PPS “On the Move” (p. 15) you will see a new section we are adding for 2020 called “Inside PPS,” so that we can share our members’ voices. The idea is that we can all learn from each other and everyone has something valuable to contribute. We look forward to reading all of your responses, and thank you for all of your contributions over the last year. Finally, last but certainly not least, a heartfelt and sincere thank you to the amazing Impact Editorial Board that works tirelessly to find and cultivate the content we bring to you!
