This month’s issue of Impact is all about leadership.
This is a topic that is near and dear to me. I know I have talked about it before, but I thought I would bring it up again. How do you help to develop leaders around you? And when I ask this I am talking about formal and informal leadership.
I believe that everyone is a leader. First and foremost, they are a leader of self. And if they are in your practice or business, they are a leader to the families you work with, or the customers they interact with, not to mention how they are contributing to the overall team. As individuals, we are responsible for our attitude, our work ethic, our values, our contributions, and so on. By developing the leadership mindset in all of your staff, even if they are not in a formal leadership position, you are enhancing your team and your business.
Outside of leadership of self, and informal leadership, there is your leadership team, and those who have a more formal leadership responsibility. They may supervise others on staff, or they may be a mentor, or a clinical instructor. Do you have a formal leadership plan for developing these staff members? Are you just hoping that they will figure it out on their own?
