I remember being at a middle-school slumber party when I first learned the game, “Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board,” The point of the game is for four or five friends to be able to lift someone each using just two fingers.
The COVID-19 pandemic and declared public health emergency (PHE) over the past year-and-a-half has prompted the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), the US Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), and countless local and state health authorities to issue a variety of guidance.
The past two decades have seen a steady shift in cultural attitudes about healthcare for individuals and their families, from that of a passive – or at least deferential – mindset to a more proactive approach.
