March offers the promise of spring weather, which always brings a welcome change.

The doldrums of winter begin to lessen as tulip buds poke their heads through the newly thawed soil, bringing new life to the gloomy previous few months. Many also associate March with luck and fortune, proudly sporting shamrocks mid-month alongside a frosted, malty beverage. However, for business owners and operators, this March offers a new sensation that wasn’t present last spring: hope. The future is looking brighter, both metaphorically and literally. Finances are beginning to recover, vaccines are available, and a semblance of day-to-day certainty is returning. As daylight increases, so does our resolve, knowing that the end of the coronavirus burden is finally, hopefully, in sight.

With hope comes gratitude, and this spring there is a resounding thankfulness for the role our teams have played over the past year. As many of you will agree, having a resilient and supportive team is essential in overcoming challenge, and a year like 2020 tested even the strongest. This month’s Impact offers tangible skills to help reinforce or strengthen your team and further ensure future success. Scott McAfee and Jane Oeffner explore using personality tests in “Who Are You?” to help find the right fit, and Connor Jackson helps dot “i’s” and cross “t’s” with his guidance in “Legal Myths About Hiring, Firing, and Signing on the Dotted Line.” And for those of you without a team yet, be sure to check out Josh Funk’s perspectives on “Transitioning from a Solo Practitioner to a Team,” because every great team starts with one person.

So, my friends, grab your Impact, a favorite frosted, malty beverage, and find a quiet place to graciously reflect on your team. Breathe in the sweet spring air and take a moment to acknowledge the signs of new life around you, reinforcing your opportunity for a fresh perspective. Though the past 12 months have been challenging, with a good team and supportive colleagues by your side, the future is blossoming with possibility.

With care,
