“Coffee and a book, family time, or going for a run.”
Craig Phifer, PT
Rehabilitation & Performance Institute“Being outside in my yard is a great way for me to decompress. In particular, I love mowing my lawn while listening to music!”
Kim Stamp
South Sound Physical & Hand Therapy“My favorite decompressors:
- Hard dancing to loud music in my great room. 🙂 It’s a winner every time!!
- For serenity: my hammock at rooftop or the ocean beach with a book
- For action/distraction: kayaking, hiking, walking at the ocean’s edge
- For calm distraction: a tough jigsaw puzzle with a nice adult beverage
- For love: Zooming with my 4-year-old grandson”

KEY Functional Assessments Network“My frequent and routine “decompressors” are walking and yoga. Both are easily accessible and not only help to clear the mind, but also have physical benefits. With my library closed, I have transitioned to audio books, which make my walks not only decompressive but an escape! For total recharging, a day at the beach with a book works for me; I never feel guilty that I should be doing something else, like I do if I am sitting and reading a book on a weekend at home. Taking some time for yourself by separating yourself from work, whether at home or in the office, makes us kinder and more effective in all that we do.”

Starfish Therapies“My two favorite ways to decompress are running and Netflix bingeing. Weird? Yep! But they both allow me to clear my mind and leave me feeling refreshed!”
Alicia Backer, PTA
Rehab Authority“My favorite way to decompress is to get grounded and go back to nature with a hike, a trail run or a mountain bike ride. It is a great way for me to let things go and clear my head.”
Phil Cadman, PT, DPT
Premier Physical Therapy“Like most PTs, my first is to go and exercise, preferably outside. I am hoping that the Seattle ski areas find a way to be open this winter so I can get above the clouds. My second is to share good comedy shows and movies with family and friends; recent favorites include Will Ferrell’s “Eurovision” and, on the opposite end of the spectrum, the vampire spoof “What We Do in the Shadows.””
